The Endless Autumn Cardigan will make you want autumn to stay forever just so you can keep wearing this cozy cardigan. Worked from the bottom-up, it is rich with texture that makes this project one that’s hard to put down.
It’s slightly cropped and oversized fit goes perfectly with those lazy mornings or cool evenings when comfort is top priority.
The Inspiration
This cardigan is a direct inspiration from the Endless Summer Top. I wanted a version to wear during Autumn that was just a rich in texture and just as much fun to knit up.
The Endless Autumn Cardigan is perfect to be thrown over dresses for warmer autumn days or jeans for colder autumn days. The loose fit makes it very easy to layer over shirts and dresses. And it’s also easy to throw a jacket on top of it. The texture of the cardigan makes this knit, not only so fun to knit up, but also unique and interesting.
I love wearing mine with a shawl for chilly mornings and then by itself in the warmer afternoons. It’s been in regular rotation and getting worn at least weekly (usually more!) since it flew off my needles.
The pattern is great for the adventurous advanced beginner who is ready to dive into sweater knitting. It has a simple bottom-up construction with the only seams being at the shoulders. The buttonband is a unique construction that is picked up as your knit. It is worked up along one side of the cardigan, along the neck and down the other side. The sleeves of the top are picked up from the body of the cardigan. It is offered in sizes 37.5″-65.5″ / 99-170cm. It is intended to be worn with 5 – 10″ /13 – 25cm of positive ease.
The Yarn
Yarn makes a huge difference in how the stitches look. It took a couple different swatches to figure out which yarn would feature the stitch details the best for this cardigan.
In the end, the winner was PurlSoho’s Understory. This yarn is a Baby Alpaca, Baby Yak and Silk blend. It is a clean, crisp yarn and it showed off the stitches so well for the Endless Autumn Cardigan during the swatch test.
Depending on your sizes, this cardigan requires 4-7 skeins (more if you’d like to lengthen the cardigan).
The Endless Autumn Cardigan is available for purchase on Ravelry & Payhip.
