Gwan Yin Sweater

Gwan Yin is the goddess of mercy. The simple lace in this raglan is reminiscent of the lotus flower she perches on. It’s simple, cropped design is easy to wear over dresses or high-waisted pants.

    The Design

This Gwan Yin Sweater is made from the top-down in a seamless raglan construction. Sleeves can be an area where even the most advanced knitters can loose their motivation. But that is not likely to happen with this sweater. The sleeves are a simple 2 row repeat that keep is simple to memorize and easy to knit.

The body of the sweater beautifully starts with the lace detail after the collar which flows into the sleeves. The pattern is written as a cropped sweater, however, length can easily be added so it can as long or short as you would like.

     Yarn

The yarn I used was the Purl Soho Santolina, which is interestingly named after the feathery leaves of the Santolina plant.

This yarn is a cotton/rayon/hemp blend and is a fingering weight. I used US 5 (3.75mm) needles on this sweater which makes it very lightweight. When trying it on after blocking, I kept wearing it, totally forgetting that I even had it on.

Because of the fibers used in this yarn, it is great for when the weather is transitioning – think autumn or spring. However it can easily be layered for winter as well.

The Gwan Yin Sweater is available for purchase on Ravelry & Payhip.
